Kenny Koerner, CRCE, AAHAM 2nd Vice President, Joshua Johnson, CRCE, AAHAM Government Relations Committee Chair Visit Capitol Hill
Kenny Koerner, CRCE, AAHAM 2nd Vice President, Joshua Johnson, CRCE, AAHAM Government Relations Committee Chair and Paul Miller, AAHAM’s Legislative Liaison, were on Capitol Hill Wednesday, February 19th as part of a preemptive initiative to solidify and finalize AAHAM’s position on this year’s Legislative Day key topics of Surprise Billing and HR 5330 Consumer Protection of Medical Debts. Also on the agenda were discussions urging movement of AAHAM’s current TCPA petition with the FCC as it pertains to an update in language to follow HIPAA guidelines.
The group met with Liam Steadman, Legislative Assistant for Representative Cheri Bustos (D-IL); Landon Zinda, Legislative Director for Representative Tom Emmer (R-MN); Molly Brimmer, Legislative Assistant for Representative Andy Harris (R-MD) and Mary Ellen Richardson, Sr. Legislative Assistant for Representative Darin LaHood (R-IL).
We received favorable feedback from all meetings. AAHAM’s position supporting the House Ways and Means Committee bill on Surprise Billing, including language for arbitration, was expressed to each office. We received agreement and strong support that the final bill would need to include conflict resolution language, such as baseball style arbitration. Representative Bustos’s office requested additional information from AAHAM on pricing transparency ideas and is appreciative of the ongoing collaborative relationship with AAHAM. Representative Harris’s office is very interested in learning more from AAHAM on an approach to offer options regarding the House Ways and Means bill on Surprise Billing and has asked for additional information to assist them in their review of the topic.
