Congress Passes Stopping Bad Robocalls Act, H.R. 3375 (116)

House lawmakers today overwhelmingly passed a broad legislative package aimed at curbing the consumer scourge of unwanted robocalls.

The final vote tally was 429-3.

The Stopping Bad Robocalls Act, H.R. 3375 (116), which now boasts over 200 co-sponsors, would require phone companies to identify spam calls to their customers and up the fines for illegal robocalls. It would also make phone companies offer free robocall-blocking services as a default option to subscribers. And the bill directs the FCC to create rules to help guard consumers from calls they did not consent to.
