With the upcoming ANI being held at the Disney Swan this year; I thought it was a good time to brush up on some Orlando trivia. I was amazed at how little I know about this central Florida city or about Disney World. Let’s see how well you do.
What is the nickname of Orlando? Is it called Sunshine City, City for All Seasons, Land of the Mouse, or The City Beautiful? If you guessed, The City Beautiful, you would be correct. While many visitors see only the theme parks, there are many beautiful areas of Orlando including nearby Winter Park.
What county is Orlando located Lake, Osceola, Seminole or Orange? They all sound pretty plausible but Orange County is correct. Orlando is the county seat of Orange County.
I’m still trying to find the total number of theme parks in Orlando, but USA Today considers the ten best Orlando theme parks are Aquatica Orlando, Epcot, Islands of Adventure, LEGOLAND, Disney Magic Kingdom, Disney Hollywood Studio, Discovery Cove, Universal, Disney Animal Kingdom and SeaWorld. How many have you visited?
Is Walt Disney World smaller than the city of San Francisco? Not a chance. San Francisco could fit within Disney World. Two cities the size of Manhattan would fit too to give you an idea of the size of the entire Disney area.
If you love visiting attractions; can you guess how many days it would take to see all the attractions in Orlando? Not estimating the price of all the tickets, but it estimated that a tourist would need 67 full days to see all of the attractions. They would also really log in some miles on their Fitbit too.
When did Disney open in Orlando? The year was 1971 but Walt Disney didn’t live to see it opened, but I was there! Some other ’71 trivia; in April of 1971, Amtrak was created by the government to rescue American’s long-distance passenger trains. It’s hard to believe since it seems like it we’ve always had Amtrak. Also, highlighting 1971, Beatles’ George Harrison organized the first benefit concert, “Benefit Concert for Bangladesh” which would be the model for many more benefit concerts in the future.
Wonder how many people Disney employs? Walt Disney World is the largest single-site employer in the US and employs more than 62,000 as part of its "cast."
When you are on vacation, do you buy souvenir t-shirts? If you buy one from Disney this trip you’ll be joining an amazing number. If you dress up people in all the t-shirts sold at Disney World in one year, you'd have enough for every resident of the state of Montana (pop. 974,989.)
I didn’t realize how self-sufficient Disney World is. While only 35% of the 27,000 acres at Disney World is developed; more than 230 tons of fruit and vegetables every year are grown at Epcot for Disney restaurants.
For the ANI, we’ll be at Disney for about 3 nights. When you think about all the rooms at the Swan; consider this; if you were to stay in a different room every night at the Disney World resorts, to sleep in all of them would take 68 years. When AAHAM comes to Disney this October; we’ll be one of the over 17.2 million people who visit Disney each year. That’s pretty amazing.
Let me know if you come up with some interesting Disney trivia while you are at the ANI this year.
